Black Earth

I wrote this poem on the day of and to honor the first day of spring:

BLACK EARTH

Black earth, deep below my feet,
Present yourself, now take a seat
before the power standing over you,
Waiting for the moment you pay your past due

Stand up before me, assert yourself,
or forever you’ll be upon the shelf

Soil, as rich as onyx in sight
becomes our hearts’ most truest delight
Open your eyes and find the sun
and seek the source second to none
