A Woman’s Gaze Elizabeth, September 2, 2025September 2, 2025 A woman in sheer white gazes into dark water, steeped in deep thought. But all she sees is the reflection of a full moon above. Reaching down, she touches the water. Thirsty and parched, she brings her finger to her lips. She is now satisfied. Yet the company she keeps leaves her wanting. More than ever. Lying back on dusty sand, her gaze toward the sky, she takes in the beauty of stars in their place, sparkling, emerging from far-off galaxies, and shining their brightest. Her blue eyes reflect their light, and they delight in the midnight hour. “The time has come,” she says to herself, gazing at the slim watch on her delicate arm. She rises to her feet, and notices a white ladder in front of her ascending to the heavens. Climbing to the top of the ladder, she pauses. She reaches for nearby white clouds, hoping to touch them. They instantly disperse, avoiding her grasp. Laughing, she sits down at the pinnacle. She covers her mouth as she views the world at her feet. With a knowing smile, she swings her legs, as a song dances through her head. There is no better place to be. ******* For more stories, keep an eye out for the book I’m currently working on, called Life, Rewritten: Poems and Stories from a Previous Existence.
